28MAY 2011 near Mission Ridge, SD - Joining George (Portz) for breakfast was a mix of pleasant and disconcerting. The food was the pleasant part; his news that a weather forecast change indicating stronger wind was the disconcerting part. On the water at 0730 I basically immediately faced a whitecap generating headwind. After struggling around three points I had had enough. Pulling ashore a bit short of the 4th point, I secured my gear and walked back to my cabin at the Sunset Lodge. The low pressure, now centered in North Dakota, will move on and by about 1800 today the wind should diminish ... and at about 0500 tomorrow should switch to an east breeze. Sunday looks good - trying to start again late today sounds questionable. George just reported that the east wind predicted for tomorrow should increase in intensity after noon. Today my one mile put me 52 miles from the dam.
