26MAY2011 near Gettysburg, SD - I awoke late - the sun was already up.  I assembled my gear in the canoe and headed up the hill for some convenient store coffee.  By 0900 I was on my way again having been well coffeed and carrying two fresh Hershey bars and two fresh garbage bags.  The garbage bags will be the second line of defense for my sleeping gear ... yesterday I noticed pinholes in the thick plastic bags I have been using ... and will still use. 
Paddling on I make great progress for about five miles, gaining the benefit of a benign tail wind.  As I begin veering SW I began feeling a contrary wind and by the time I finished 11 miles I stopped, the contrary wind now being a whitecap generating head wind. 

Rain is expected all night tonight
