1MAY2010 @ Fort Peck, MT - Today I awoke to another rainy/windy and cold day. At about 0700, before many folks were getting out and on the highways, I rolled the canoe out onto Montana Highway 24, then onto Montana Highway 117 and into the town of Fort Peck. Total rolled distance was a bit more than 2 miles. Less than ten vehicles had to be avoided along the way, so other than the rain and wind it was a fairly easy task.
I wore both my recently purchased rain jacket and my 1980s Gore Tex knee length gear. The older garment has never been very effective - and it still isn't - but the new jacket shed water very well. I decided I will wear both most of the time when rain is expected or is happening. The larger, older raingear at least is an extra layer and stops wind.
I saw two Mule deer on the SW side of Fort Peck.
The internet indicates that I will get underway again Sunday at about 730AM. I will spend the rest of today getting my gear back in bags etc and ready to go.
